It is time to build a better future for all our neighbors in District 19A and across Minnesota. We care deeply about one another and want to see us succeed. The best way that we can strengthen our communities is by improving outcomes for us all. We need to create more living wage jobs, invest in our schools, and foster a public safety system that protects us all, no exceptions.
We are living in a time of extreme economic inequality. For too long, big corporations have enjoyed loopholes that allow them to protect profits offshore. How many Main Street businesses do you know that do that? Main Street pays more while Wall Street profits. Far too many Minnesotans are struggling because the greedy few rig the rules against working families and small business owners.
This year has shown the importance of a government that cares for us. "If Washington won't lead, Minnesota will." We have the capacity to leave Minnesota in a better place as the Federal Government attempts to roll back environmental safeguards, repeal the Affordable Care Act, and give massive tax cuts to the wealthy. That's not in our best interests and I believe it's time to come together to create our destiny together.
With nearly a decade of elected government experience, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate the complicated governmental agencies, and get things done." I helped do so for the rare disease community with Bailey's Bill. We navigated the process to amend session law to build 4 lanes of highway between Nicollet & New Ulm on Highway 14. And together we rolled up or sleeves to fund grain bin safety grants, training, and investing in new technology to stop future tragedies like what happened to Landon Gran.
Let's work together to ensure that all Minnesotans have the care they need, a clean energy future & healthy climate, safe communities and fair justice, better serving our veterans & active military members and their families, connected communities, the opportunity to achieve their dreams, and the time to care for themselves and their loved ones.
Your partner in Saint Paul,
Rep. Jeff Brand
DFL-endorsed candidate, District 19A
In education, I will make investments so that our littlest Minnesotans have a safe, inspiring place to learn and develop into citizens with world-class knowledge to tackle the workforce or prepare for college degrees. I will fight to ensure that our schools are fully funded and have the resources that they need to drive down class size and increase the number of Social Workers in schools. Lastly, no student should have to go hungry and so I will propose that the school lunch program be funded similarly with state resources to how the federal government already pays for student breakfast program.
Fully-funded schools with appropriate class sizes
Voluntary, state-funded pre-K for up to two years prior to Kindergarten
State-funded student lunch program
Invest in school social workers to tackle behavioral & mental issues
Tuition waiver for 2-year public college tuition for high demand jobs
Public/Private Job Training Incentive Program to train / retain MN workers
Safe, Modern Transportation Options
In transportation, I will make balanced investments throughout Minnesota so that everyone will have an efficient system to transport goods from factory to store and safe enough to transport your most precious cargo from home to school.
Funding for four lanes of Highway 14 from Nicollet to New Ulm
A comprehensive transportation system because good roads are important for vehicle safety & the economy
Funding for transportation should be distributed equally to meet Metro & Greater Minnesota needs
Have you ever been in a canoe or kayak on a lake in the BWCAW? When was the last time that you took a walk in a State Park or have driven by a solar farm? Did you know that 4 biomes are contained within our state boundaries, or that they are identified as Prairie, Deciduous Forest, Tall-grass Aspen Parkland, and Boreal Forest?
A Stable Economy For All Minnesotans
There are many components to a vibrant economy in Minnesota. Despite many challenges, our economic climate is very strong right now and right now we are ranked very high as a place to do business in the United States. We have a well-educated workforce, a generally healthy population, strong union presence, and we are afforded a high quality of life. In order to build upon the successes of previous Legislatures, I will work very hard on 4 topics:
A Healthy Minnesota
In order to promote a Health Minnesota, I will work hard to do the one thing so many people across the district have asked me to tackle. At your door, healthcare was the topic discussed the most. I believe that this election is a referendum on a "do nothing" Legislature that contributed millions in taxpayer money to insurance companies, but did little to address cost and coverage options across Minnesota. Leadership couldn't even pass an AARP backed plan to tackle elder abuse or pass a "one penny per pill" fee to drug companies to reduce prescriptions and help pay for abuse counseling.
When you hear the word Veteran, do you think of foreign combat, the American Flag, or the local VFW or American Legion post?
To me veterans are a segment of the population that should be revered and never should endure the suffering of homelessness or the agony of treatable maladies. Like many other families, our as has also endured the loss of a loved one that once served in the military and had succumbed to the pains of PTSD.
And as your next Representative, I will seek solutions to treat veterans and provide families of veterans with an improved quality of life including:
Lifetime Homestead Market Value Exclusion for surviving spouses so when they move, the exclusion follows them
Access to free mental health screenings and the access of appropriate mental & physical care without having to travel across the state
Military Beneficiary Pay of Benefits protections to prevent predatory practices
State Veteran Home remodeling / upgrades
Homelessness to Hired Jobs Program
